A South Dakota tradition, generations in the making

There are places you visit for a hunt. And there are places that stay with you long after the season is over.

Big Bend Ranch is one of those places.

For more than 75 years, sportsmen have traveled to this remarkable stretch of South Dakota prairie to experience the hunting, landscape and hospitality that define Big Bend Ranch. Set among rolling grasslands and grain fields overlooking the Missouri River, it is a place shaped by the seasons—and by generations of people who have cared for the land.

Since 1992, Big Bend Ranch has been owned and operated by the Falk family.

Today, Nick and his wife, Jessica, welcome guests from across the country and around the world to experience the ranch they call home. Together, they have carried Big Bend into a new generation—combining the traditions and personal hospitality of a family-run sporting lodge with an exceptional hunting experience on one of South Dakota’s most remarkable landscapes.

And now, another generation is growing up at Big Bend.

Nick and Jessica’s sons—Jack, Graham and Hayden—have become familiar faces around the lodge. During hunting season, you’re just as likely to find them conducting their own version of “safety patrol” in the field as you are to catch them slipping into the kitchen in search of something sweet.

To them, this isn’t a destination. It’s home.

And perhaps that is what makes Big Bend different.

Guests aren’t arriving at a resort created to look like a South Dakota hunting lodge. They’re being welcomed into a working ranch, a family tradition and a sporting heritage that has been unfolding here for generations.

The fields are still farmed.

The prairie still stretches toward the Missouri.

The dogs still know when fall is coming.

And every year, when the mornings turn crisp and the first hunters begin arriving, Big Bend Ranch comes alive again.
